Why are some people opposed to technologies that will extend the human lifespan?

Their biggest objection is that if everyone lived hundreds of years or perhaps eternally it would cause overpopulation. Well I think they are wrong. They forget to take into consideration that people are having fewer children and that we will colonize space!
