1993 Talon timing wont start?

I'm trying to help my friend out, he put a 7bolt 1st gen 4g63 non turbo in his 2nd gen turbo talon because the other one shot a rod out the side, anyways we got it put together and i do think we got everything connected, he bought the cam postioning sensor wire and he got it hooked up and he tried to start it but it only ran for about 5-10 mins i think and he tought it was the gas so he got new gas for it and it just doesn't want to start at all, I'm thinking its the timing but we thought we had the timing set right, we lined up the marks on the cam gear together and lined up the arrows on the crank shaft together along with the oil pump. Is it the timing or what?
